Summer Day Fun
I’ve been stranded under this scorching hot sun for
months now
I’ve run out of food and water
and am on the verge of dehydration.
As I look at the endless trail
all I see is the reflection of the sun on the sand
Wait!
Is that what I think it is?
If my eyes do not deceive me there is a pond of water
up ahead.
I walk with what’s left of my strength to the pond
Every step made it seem like the pond got further
and further.
So
I gave up.
I laid in the sand
and as I am about to die
I hear…
Time for dinner!

The Rush
All I can hear is squeaking shoes,
people screaming,
the ball pounding the ground,
it all comes back in to focus.
Six seconds left, down by two
and I’m at the three-point line with the ball.
I’ve practiced this for weeks but it all seems forgotten.
I take a choice,
the ball leaves
my fingertips
and the gym goes silent.
Seconds later I’m being lifted in the air by my teammates
as everyone chants my name.
I’ve played basketball for 4 to 5 years now. I was on the 7th and 8th grade basketball teams and I thought about the great times. Every player always experiences a moment where the game is up to them. If you win your team goes wild and you are congratulated but if you lose you feel as if you have let down your team. When you get into this moment you are crushed by pressure and your choices are affected, but when you’re done the rush feels great even if you let down your team. Just having the experience prepares you for the next time you’re on the spot to win the game. This poem explains what is going on when your in the moment.
