Deployed
The day had finally arrived, the day I was to be deployed for Iraq. I knew this
day would come the moment I enlisted but I had no idea it would be so soon. What
would my family do without me here? What if I didn’t make it out alive? Millions of
these questions ran through my head as I stepped into the airplane. I knew leaving my
family and my friends behind would be arduous but I never imagined it being as
immensely difficult as I was finding it at this moment. Then it happened, my commander
shut the doors of the airplane. For the next six months I would be away from what meant
the most to me, my family.
I was inspired to write this micro-fiction by all of the soldiers who work day in day out to protect this country. We never really get to hear there the fear they faced so I decided I would portray it myself.
